Ok, I missed a day. Yesterday I went into the office, worked through into the early afternoon and then took the bus over to Terminal Five a flight up to Newcastle. Then G and I almost pulled an L and Gareth, chatting right the way up to when the gate for our flight was closing. We made it just in time for the flight which was late closing and late taking off. Considering we spent forty-five minutes in the air we easily spent three hours at the airport. This is the main problem with short haul air travel from my point of view.
Unless you’re flying a long way, the overheads take some adjustment to get used to. It’s the thing I like the least about the Heathrow Express too. Sure it runs across the distance in about 15 minutes, but you can wait just as long for the next one to leave the station. And so the real journey time is often closer to twenty or twenty five minutes.
Lots to think about at the moment. I don’t have enough reserve cash, which leaves me feeling exposed. I can afford the things I am doing, and I think I am accumulating rather than losing value. But I am well down from the level of cash I have sat at for the last few years. This has been something of a decline and is part of the reason I broke up with L as I wasn’t able to manage my finances very well and maintain the relationship.
I earned the most money I have earned each year we were together and rather than pulling that into something significant as a cash reserve or meaningful investment I saved a little of it, enough to tell myself I was doing ok and I spent the rest. Renting a better flat, taking trips, which is the double whammy of not working and spending lots of money too, I should really go through my bank statements from that period like a sort of fourth step.
It’s not that I didn’t want to write 500 words yesterday, I even thought about it a couple of times, but I didn’t manage my environment in a way which made sure I could. Looking back I can see there were moments when I could have set the time aside and made it happen, but I didn’t.
For example, when we went to the airport, I could have immediately found the gate using the AirportCommunity app, gone there, seated myself in a corner and gotten the words down on the page. I could have written them before I went to lunch, or made myself do it before I went to sleep. Although, to be honest, I had other habits and routines I needed to manage when I got back to the hotel room.
I made some excuses for myself, while I was in the office I told myself I was at work and really shouln’t do personal things, but then I am perfectly fine checking my phone or browsing the internet.
Plenty to work on!
