I’m not quite sure how I feel about today. On the one hand, it started out really well. I got up nice and early, studied for an hour and did some handwriting practise and then had a class with LQ from 7:00 to 8:00am. We studied the first half of an idiom which is about two women in a village. One of them is very beautiful and everybody thinks she is beautiful and sympathises with her when she is tired or unwell. There is also a much more plain-looking woman who lives in the same village and wants the same status and attention the first woman is getting, and so begins to spy on her, to wear the same clothes and to adopt the same manners, but then gets a very different reaction from the other villagers.
There’s something very sympathetic about this story, and it reminded me of a video I saw called Johnny Lingo. We can talk about that another time, but that’s a 1969 classic.
I had pre booked a slot at the recycling centre for 8:00 AM which is 8 until 8:30am really, I’d also loaded the car the night before, and I was proud of myself for doing that. So, with the car already loaded with the material I could fit into the back, largely some timber and then the remnants of the old furnace system. A whole bunch of galvanised steel in tubes and junctions and things like that.
It is useful, having had a ventilation system in the house in seeing how they approached the problem of ventilation. So for example, in the loft they simply ran courses down each side. So when it comes to putting an MVHR unit in, which is something I want to do, I know that the best thing to do is run trunks parallel to the house in the loft and that covers all of your upstairs rooms. There is a question about how to get the air fed from upstairs to downstairs but that’s a problem for another time.
I got back from the recycling centre and one of my friends asked if I could help him move some stuff. So I went to his house, picked him up, drove him 45 minutes down the road and then we spent a little over an hour at this house putting things into a skip. But, but it was only sort of organised. So we went at it putting things in the skip, but then he needed to go through some things and organise some things. And so I spent a lot of time just wandering around out the front feeling a little listless. It’s a sense of having places to be and things to do.
I was talking to myself while I was having these feelings, being like, “just enjoy where you are, being with a friend, helping out, being useful”, you know, maybe I could think about the design of my utility room. There are thoughts I could be having right now which would be a useful thing to do at the time. Instead, I had a pretty poor attitude. We went back to his house and we had lunch together. His daughter showed me some of the new movements she has been learning in gymnastics. This made me feel distcintly un-bendy.
I headed back to the flat and then felt more stymied than productive didn’t really do as much as I might have liked. I played some games, cleaned up a little bit, but I didn’t progress the key tasks I need to complete. One of them being sealing the floor in the utility room and getting some concrete laid to fill two of the voids in there. I’ve got the concrete, I’ve got the tools and materials, I’ve got the bucket and I didn’t do it.
So that’s a bit of a downside I think that I will try to make some time Sunday morning to get that done, because one of the things that occurred to me is that it’s like 15° or less much of the time now so concrete is going to take a while to go off because it wants to be nice and warm. It might take days for the concrete to go off properly and it really needs to set before I can apply the self-levelling over the top. So then yeah, that’s, that’s something to think about. So that’s kind of where I am at the moment.
