Standards – The wait is over
A brief perusal of a selection of news sites has revealed that the IEEE have finally approved the 802.11n standard. There is cheering all around, after all it’s only taken them several years… But after all of that time what does this actually mean?
In short, convenience. The new standard means that the old technology which offers decent increases in both effective range and data throughput is now destined to become, well, standard. Most people won’t care, but they won’t mind the way those download bars whizz by, or the fact that Wi-Fi in the garden will be superb. Wardrivers will be happy too, as they can now park on an adjacent street rather than just outside your house…
Onwards and upwards eh?
